As today is Maunday Thursday (Holy Thursday), we commemorate The Last Supper as well as the day Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. Just like many other stories in the Bible, Jesus taught us, by example, how we are meant to humble ourselves and serve others.
“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.” John 13:13-16
Many times we get caught up in our own lives and don’t always look for opportunities to serve others. We become selfish in our own needs instead of actively looking for ways to encourage or assist others with their needs.
Today I encourage you to keep your eyes open and look for ways to serve someone whether it be opening the door for a stranger, writing an encouraging note to a coworker/waitress/friend or calling someone who may need to hear your voice. Find a way to humble yourself and serve others just as Jesus served His disciples that day.
God Bless!
